A Bowl of Christmas
At this time of year we are overladen with schedules of shopping, baking , wrapping and decorating the tree and our homes.
Throughout the years decorating my home for Christmas was an experience unlike any other.
Every room was decorated .
Each of my children had a tree in their room .
It was clear to anyone who came to our home that I loved Christmas.
It was a time of year for miracles.
People that you did not see as much throughout the year came by to visit.
Gifts that were given were maybe not what you had expected , yet it was exciting seeing everyone coming to the door laden with gifts to put under the tree.
I love tradition.
It gave you a place to belong.
It was a legacy, a time and place that carried itself throughout generations.
The Advent Calenders were one of those traditions for my children.
The excitement of opening the first window of December, and discovering the chocolate prize inside.
It was a simple tradition, yet it had fulfilled its' purpose.
It evoked memories for years after .
Each time I see them sold in the shoppes I am reminded of those little hands that opened each window....and then handing it to me first to share with them.
Yesterday, I filled two large bowls with Christmas ornaments. They sparkled and shone in the light.
It reminded me how full of Christmas those bowls are .
I had filled those bowls each year with the simple traditions, the aromas of cooking and baking, the laughter, and the echoes of my children each Christmas until a bowl of Christmas ornaments were all I needed to evoke every memory as if it was yesterday.
Traditions are important. They link us to the past , and give us the present .
Start a tradition for your family , or just for yourself, and create a lifetime of memories.
Merry Christmas
